Change Management in Coach Carter
Change management is the techniques/strategies that are used by organizations to manage the implementation of change. Top-down change was seenin the movie, after all the change were made by the senior management, which in the movie is Coach Carter . Majority of the time top-dog change is not very successful because of implementation. Cruz a player on Richmond nearly quit the team due to Coach Carter’s decisions and his lack of understanding of Coach Carter’s motives. Coach Carter does not try to prevent him from leaving, nor does he explain why maintaining a certain GPA will be beneficial to Cruz and his teammates. Instead, the Coach just warns Cruz that he is making a mistake and that by leaving the room he is losing his place on the team. This shows the viewer the downfall of Top-down management and the potential risk and losses it causes. Since there is no support from either the middle or lower level, Carter's contract had almost been rejected by the parents and players. Planned change causes the organization to anticipate future complications. Coach Carter anticipated any future complications and knew how to deal with them. He was always ahead of the team, knowing what areas where the team possess strengthens and weakness. Through planning, his unique methods, dedication and loyalty the change was managed. Furthermore, Coach Carter believe his team by explaining to them that they have a brighter future and can do better if they try harder in school and try harder in basketball. He motivated the team to work hard by explaining to them the bigger picture and how this will help them.
