What I Would Do Differently
Without a question Coach Ken Carter was definitely a coach to remember. His unique techniques and his questionable leading style proved to be the most effective many have seen. I personally don't think such results could come from any other form of leadership. As a leader you have to recognize the problems and what your team needs to succeed. You also have to figure out what would work best with your team and what wouldn't. In the movie Coach Carter was surrounded by various personalities who all had one thing in common, at the rate they were going, they weren't going anywhere in life. He used this as fuel to his leadership style, reminded them of their potential.
There's really nothing more an individual can do to get better results than Coach Carter himself. Personally there were very minor things I thought would be better if they were altered. One of the things I would have done differently is be more polite to his co workers including the principal and other school teachers. At one point Coach Carter had everyone against him, had he been polite and reasoned with his staff during the voting they could have sided with him rather than against him. Another thing is instead of constantly nagging the Principal for the progress report of his team he could have taken initiative and gone to each teacher individually to show just how serious he was about this.
